The South African Society of Occupational Medicine (SASOM) is an ICOH affiliate member. The SASOM Annual Congress 2022 was held virtually in four sessions over four months from July to October 2022.
The theme of the Congress – “Updates in Occupational Health and Occupational Medicine in the COVID-19 era” was a common thread throughout the four sessions.
The first session, held on 29 July, was on “Updates on chemical exposures and medical surveillance”.
Dr. Sashikala Chandrasekar, Chair of the Scientific Committee on Rural Health, was the invited international speaker for the session; she presented on the topic – “Pesticide issues and the need for action: A perspective from India”.
The other three sessions addressed the topics – “Lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic”, “Updates on ergonomics, musculoskeletal disorders, and physical factors at work”, and “Updates on occupational health and medicine: Workplace legislation, ethics, and compensation”.
